From the Executive Director’s Desk:Women's History Month |
| March brings with it a welcome hint of spring here in Erie. As we celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, a holiday rooted in community, heritage, and a bit of good fortune, I’m reminded how fortunate we are to be surrounded by neighbors who believe deeply in caring for one another.
March is also Women’s History Month, a time to recognize the remarkable contributions women have made—and continue to make—in strengthening our communities. At Meals on Wheels Erie, it’s also the perfect moment to share some exciting news about a new initiative focused on supporting women in need.
This year, we proudly launched the Women’s Nutritional Network, a program dedicated to ensuring food-insecure women in Erie County receive the nourishment and support they deserve. With initial funding from the Erie Women’s Fund, and an additional $5,000 gift from the Cafaro Foundation—generously donated in honor of the 5,000 miles walked by the Millcreek Mall Walking Club—we are able to provide a daily meal to 20 women in our community over the coming year. Programs like this are possible because people come together with a shared purpose: to lift up neighbors who may be facing difficult circumstances and remind them that they are not alone.
As we celebrate 55 years of Meals on Wheels Erie, we are also planning a special event to support this new effort. On May 15, we will host “At Her Table: A 55th Anniversary Celebration for Meals on Wheels Erie,” benefiting the Women’s Nutritional Network. This gathering will celebrate the strength of women in our community while helping ensure more women have access to the nutrition and care they need.
We hope you’ll consider joining us for this meaningful evening—whether as an attendee, sponsor, or supporter of the mission. Together, we can continue building a stronger, healthier community, one meal at a time.
This March, whether you’re wearing a bit of green, celebrating the women who inspire you, or simply checking in on a neighbor, thank you for being part of the Meals on Wheels Erie family. Your support continues to make programs like this possible.
Warmly, |

| Thank you, Mall Walkers, For Walking 5000 Miles!
In February, the Millcreek Mall Walkers' Program and the Cafaro Foundation presented Meals on Wheels Erie with a generous $5,000 donation to support the Women’s Nutritional Network. Walkers pledged to complete 5,000 miles in December 2025, and once they reached their goal, the Cafaro Foundation matched the milestone with this meaningful gift.
Special thanks to the Walkers, the Cafaro Foundation, and Cinnabon for providing a sweet breakfast treat during the celebration!
