Dear Friends, I hope this finds you well and enjoying our Erie summer!

Lots to cover this month, so I'll get right to it -

On Tuesday, August 12, Meals on Wheels Erie joins hundreds of local nonprofits for Erie Gives 2025 — a powerful day of giving that strengthens our entire community. Your support on this day helps ensure that our most vulnerable neighbors continue receiving nutritious meals and compassionate care year-round.

Right now, 1 in 4 Americans is age 60 or older, and that number is rising daily. Among them, 29% have a disability, 24% live alone, and 12% are veterans. Many face serious financial hardship: 1 in 2 seniors living alone can’t afford basic needs, and 12 million older adults are struggling to age at home safely.

At Meals on Wheels Erie, we are working every day to meet this growing need — especially through our Veterans in Need Program, which delivers a freshly prepared meal 365 days a year to local veterans who served our country.

It costs just $2,300 to feed a senior or veteran for an entire year — far less than a single day in the hospital or 10 days in a nursing home.

On Erie Gives Day, your donation is boosted by a prorated match from The Erie Community Foundation, making your impact go even further.

Please consider supporting Meals on Wheels Erie tomorrow. With your help, we can deliver so much more than a meal — we deliver independence, dignity, and hope.

Warm Regards,
Jennifer

Meals on Wheels Erie hosted its annual Volunteer Appreciation Picnic on Wednesday, July 23, at the Waterworks Cookhouse on Presque Isle State Park. The event is a heartfelt thank-you to the dedicated individuals who make the organization’s mission possible—some of whom have volunteered for over 15 years

Jennifer Hoffman, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Erie, shared her gratitude:

“The compassion and dedication our volunteers show—day in and day out—to every recipient is the very embodiment of the Meals on Wheels mission. Our goal is to help our homebound neighbors age with dignity, and it’s the daily check-ins, meal and grocery deliveries, and friendly phone calls that make that possible. We simply couldn’t do what we do without them. This picnic is just one small way we can express our deep gratitude and show them how truly valued they are by our organization and our community.”
